I still haven't got over the sheer sense of joy over our win on Boxing Day. But I agree with Andy Thorn , James McPake and Kevin Halls .It means nothing unless we follow it up by beating Brighton on Saturday

To make up the points gap at the bottom of the table we have to win games and its to be hoped the Bristol win gives the players the confidence to express themselves and begin to pick up some points.

With Bristol facing league leaders Southampton on Friday potentially we could close the gap further if we can deliver a result on Saturday.

I agree with Kevin Halls though that again we failed to produce a consistent ninety minute performance. Not for the first time Andy Thorn changed things around at half time

WHILE most Coventry fans would have a wry small at the departure of the ludicrous figure of Ken Dulieu I suspect like me what their looking for from the festive season is a win against Bristol City on Boxing Day

Being the team just above the relegation zone if we are ever to start the great comeback we simply must win that game. Whilst Kevin Halls is right we have got used to seeing Coventry City lose it's still possible that one win could lead to more

Yet looking at the team playing with such a desperate lack of confidence at times it's hard to see it happening. Andy Thorn rather like Dickens Mr Micawber bemoans his bad luck and "waits for something to turn up".

No team are eternally unlucky. If chances are missed its basically because of a lack of confidence. There are questions about the diamond formation. It's worth asking why the club can't be a home for Freddy Eastwood. And if two keepers were bought for competition why can't Dunn be given a chance

But the real question is why are these players who should be capable of so much more propping up the table.

Many fans look at the usual points safety margin and so we are gone already. That may or may not be so. In reality we need to achieve more points than the third bottom team
and that's it

But as Stuart Linnell says every week something has to change to make things happen.
Most teams get a surge in this situation from a change of manager. We can't afford to make a change it would seem.

But having Lee Carsley at the club who was so inspiring to his team mates on the field last season is a temptation. Big decisions may have to be made in this area

With the failure to win in two games against close rivals and another home defeat against Southampton we've sunk to second from bottom

I really feel that as we are getting anchored lower in the table we have to take the threat seriously. Andy Thorn seems to be blindly hoping that things will just come right.

However as Clive Platt says we're losing games so we must be doing something wrong. The International break should give food for thought as we face a tough game against West Ham that we really need to win.

Wins really need to start somewhere ans soon. I'd say here and now I want us to compete with West Ham for ninety minutes not for just sixty five

HAVING not blogged for a little while it can be difficult to sum up your thoughts about events at Coventry City these days as things are constantly happening

On the field following an encouraging performance against Nottingham Forest and a strong away draw at Leeds, we were all brought down to earth by the Burnley result.Following the latest of many late surrenders as West End Boy said questions were being asked about Andy Thorn

I know many City fans have the highest of respect for Thorn. I can see why,he seems like the sort of bloke you'd have a pint with. In a lot of his statements to the media he seems to come over like a fan

But its worth remembering that he is a novice at the trade of Football Manager

FOUR years ago fans where very excited by the latest lower league scoring sensation Freddy Eastwood and where urging Coventry City to buy him

When Chris Coleman took the hint it seemed like Coventry City at last had the prolific scorer they'd required for so long. I remember one of his first performances in a Carling Cup game where he showed his quality and was very unlucky to not score

As the season developed it was clear Freddy was hitting the sort of goal drought every scorer goes through. I thought the fans stuck by him that first season because they could see the pure quality of his play

THERE'S no doubt that the team Coventry City put out on Saturday should have done a lot better. But events again exposed how threadbare this season's squad really is

Whereas we've all missed the three name players who chose to leave the club it's worth remembering another four outfield players were released by the club.

It's not clear how much these decisions were influenced by cost cutting or were straight football decisions by Andy Thorn

It's clear though that Lee Carsley would have provided the experience Andy Thorn now says the team needs. Isaac Osbourne and Michael McIndoe may not have been automatic choices but would have given the manager options

Though at the end of last season Chris Hussey was first choice retaining Stephen O'Hallaran would have brought competition for the left back position

COVENTRY CITY are involved in a relegation fight so it can't be good news that two home games in four days produced just two points

With both games drawing crowds of just twelve thousand people it's very easy to be very disheartened about Coventry City's future prospects.

Crowds are dipping towards a third of capacity and with dissent stamped on within the ground clearly fans are choosing to stay away in numbers

With this bound to be affecting finances doubtless the squad will be weakened even more in January. It's a vicious circle and some how something has to give

PAUL CLOUTING's response to the continued strife at the Ricoh regarding fans use of banners, marks a new low in communication at the club

Personally I would have liked him to hold a inquiry into how a confidential offer letter found it's way to a member of the national press. I'm not holding my breath though

There's been a lot of comment about his laughable defence of the stewards action in various forums. What strikes me is if he really thought this would satisfy fans it shows what contempt the board have for the clubs supporters

There is always an edge to any club communication when they face any challenge. Mr Clouting's statement particular referred to the effect the scenes had on the players

It felt great to see City record their first win of the season on Saturday. After a spirited second half display it was a deserved victory

The first half display featured a great deal of passing from City but relatively few attempts on the Derby goal. However in the second half City spread the ball about more efficiently and created a number of chances

Cyrus Christie got forward more and supplied some great crosses. Carl Baker drove forward with energy and thoroughly deserved his goal and Lukas Jutkiewicz led the line with strength and power

It showed Andy Thorn's system can produce creative and penetrating football. It would have been nice to see it for the full ninety minutes though

WITH the collapse of the Hoffman bid it's tempting for some City fans to say SISU are all we've got we should stick with them rather than continuing to protest

We've just gone through a transfer window were we have brought in a new striker and SISU representative Onye Igwe has written the fans an open letter.

While I respect fans who believe this I myself continue to believe the future of the club is best secured under alternative ownership and would protest for that belief

The withdrawl of the Hoffman bid initially seemed to be for not very significant reasons feeding in to the clubs propoganda that it was not a serious one. However I always believed it was serious and when details of the leaking of the offer letter surfaced I wasn't surprised by the investors reaction
