Gutless Sky Blues.........
GUTLESS: What a disastrous performance from the Sky Blues against bottom of the table strugglers Bristol City. There was a complete lack of commitment and effort from some of the players, which has put us right back into the mixer for a relegation spot and Division 1football next season.
Having made such a fist of it recently, with a 7 game unbeaten run and plenty of support from the fans, it was a real let down to see them capitulate so completely against a poor Bristol team. The excuse of tiredness doesn't wash with me; these are professional athletes, who should be at the peak of fitness now and raring to go. I remember playing football on Saturday afternoon, then two games on a Sunday. Admittedly I was tired, but I also held down a full time job as well, so come on boys, it is our future you are playing for here...................
The tactics were pretty dire too, with far too many backward passes, but the lack of a striker worthy of the name is our real problem. With Nimely on the bench, the front two were pretty pathetic and neither would be likely to get a game for any other team in this league. With a lack of anyone to hold the ball up, it was inevitable that we would gift possession to the home team, but how will we get on next season, when Alex goes back to his home club?
I know we are not mathematically relegated yet, and with Bristol having games against high flying Brum and West ham on the horizon, anything is possible, but they also have a home game against struggling Barnsley, with their final game being away at Burnley, so I can see us needing three more wins to have a chance of avoiding the dreaded drop.
That makes the away fixture at Burnley take on huge significance, as only a win and then home wins against lowly Millwall and Doncaster will give us any chance of staying up. Unless Southampton clinch promotion before we play them and they decide to take it easy against us.
If we do go down, I am pretty sure the gutless performance against Bristol City, will be a major factor in our demise.................
