Could the reason Coventry City can't win away be all in the mind ?
THE Sky Blues still can't get a win away from home and it's hard to see where they will get that elusive first win at and we could go the whole season as the only team in the Football League without a single victory on the road.
That is an embarrassing statistic and it's only down to our recent good form at home that is keeping us afloat at the moment as otherwise we would have been long gone by now.
Why the City can't win on their travels is on all Sky Blue fans minds and we all have our own answer to that poser and it would be easy just to say that they aren't good enough and lack confidence.
Talk of bad luck and poor refereeing decisions is another line of thought as is the players switching off at crucial moments in a game costing us points.
But could the real reason be down to plain old negative thinking ? Are the players going away from home with the mindset that as a team we are the worst in the country and in doing so start believing that so play poorly ?
Because at the Ricoh they are playing with more confidence most of the time and look like they believe in themselves more but away from there comfort zone they lose that belief.
Psychology does play a huge role in sport not just in individual ones but team ones too whether we accept it or not that's why most clubs use it more now than ever before.
At Forest recently i couldn't believe how poor we were it was like watching a completely different one from the one we see at the Ricoh you'd have thought they were up against Barcelona and not lowly Forest who looked as fragile on confidence as we were.
So do the City need to lie on the Psychologists couch before they step on the coach ?
And do they need to read more motivational books instead of reading The Sun on the way to away grounds ?
Probably not just get it into their heads that they can win and to stop using excuses all the time could be a start, because if they truly believe they can't win away from home the outcome will be they won't !
