An awful match ...but Coventry City won!
Saturday's performance was woeful but we won. That is something that we have not been able to say for a while.
Another stoppage time winner, when it has usually been the other way made it even sweeter.
The football at times was abysmal with neither side able to string any real moves together. Barnsley never even managed a corner all game and had only one real shot all game.
Considering the importance of the game we started flat and at times it even had the feeling of a pre-season game. Whether nerves got to the players, I don't know.
City finally upped the tempo with about 15 minutes to go and looked the only winners.
So credit to the players for managing to keep going to the end.
Carl Baker got stick from certain sections of the fans. But quite frankly he was awful.
I don't agree with booing him but I understand why some fans did. He looked lost at times, his touch was heavy and he struggled to even do the basics. It was a big surprise when he reappeared at half time especially considering the options on the bench.
AT was watching the same game as us so why he left him for so long is beyond me and poor man management. We had options on the bench so why not use them earlier as it was clear Baker was struggling from the start?
On the positive side Nimely was bright when he was given the ball and Platt battled hard. I do wish that either Nimely or McSheffrey would get closer top him when we lump it up to him as when they did, we looked dangerous.
Keogh was solid again and defensively we were rarely troubled.
Barnsley though were dreadful, easily the worst team I have seen in a long time. If they continue to play like that then they may well find themselves drawn into the relegation fight ...fingers crossed.
