Only Coventry City fans can save their club

Protests against dictatorial regimes may be de rigueur at the moment, but City fans risk biting off the hand that feeds their beloved club.
My decision on whether to attend Saturday's FA Cup tie against Southampton will be based upon whether I can get back from Birmingham in time after having an ill-fitting pair of trousers adjusted; certainly nothing to do with Sisu.
I understand why people want to protest. There is general perception that Sisu have mis-managed the club, and this may be true, but it is not the main cause of our dire position.
Coventry City's biggest problem is that not enough people come through the turnstiles. You can have the best boardroom team on the planet, but if not enough people buy tickets then the club will fail.
If Garry Hoffman's takeover does ever come to fruition, unless attendances improve, we will no doubt end up protesting against him before too long.
Football clubs are quickly learning that they are going to have to live within their means. This may sound horribly dull, but what it means is that fans will ultimately have more power in terms of how successful their club is.
A club's success will be much more closely related to its turnover, and the vast majority of a club's turnover (at Coventry's level, at least) is generated by ticket sales.
Put simply: the more people turn up to watch a team, the more successful that team will be.
When Sisu took over our club, the average attendance at the Ricoh was around 19,000. It's now down to around 15,000.
That may not seem much, but it means that the club is making around £150,000 less per month (or £1.8m per year) on ticket sales compared to four years ago. And attendances are continuing to fall.
It's no surprise then that Sisu haven't been able to invest all that much in the squad. What is perhaps surprising is that they continue to fund the club's losses.
In difficult financial times, there will always be protests, but in some cases they do more harm than good.
I won't be protesting against Sisu, or encouraging people to boycott matches. On the contrary, I'll be racing back from Birmingham and encouraging everyone I know to attend.
If you want a quick and easy way to save our club, just buy a ticket.
