Coventry City need to get that winning habit

I still haven't got over the sheer sense of joy over our win on Boxing Day. But I agree with Andy Thorn , James McPake and Kevin Halls .It means nothing unless we follow it up by beating Brighton on Saturday

To make up the points gap at the bottom of the table we have to win games and its to be hoped the Bristol win gives the players the confidence to express themselves and begin to pick up some points.

With Bristol facing league leaders Southampton on Friday potentially we could close the gap further if we can deliver a result on Saturday.

I agree with Kevin Halls though that again we failed to produce a consistent ninety minute performance. Not for the first time Andy Thorn changed things around at half time

But the sheer energy and commitment shown in the second half was great to see.

I have despaired at Andy Thorn's moaning about bad luck. But I couldn't help thinking that on another day Richard Wood's strong first half tackle in the box might have resulted in a penalty. And Joe Murphy's triple save in the second half convinced me it must be our day

Maybe our luck is turning. But I always believe you make your own luck and feel City certainly deserved this result

I thought Richard Wood produced a fine defensive performance. Gary Deegan gave us strength and purpose in midfield. Gary McSheffrey produced a mixed performance missing a chance he really should have buried but troubling the Bristol defence in a busy second half performance

But I agreed with Andy Turner's Telegraph verdict. The player who caught my eye was Conor Thomas.

Whilst Gael Bigrimana again flattered to deceive I feel our other young midfield star showed a range of passing ability that marks him out as a great future prospect

So the battle to stop up needs to start now. With the next away game being West Ham I feel that we need to get three points from Brighton before it

Bristol City are in the strong position and we are dependant on them slipping up. We have to put pressure on them to make that happen.

Let's start with a win on Saturday

Keep up to date
