West Ham took a hammering but still got three points
FOOTBALL can be a very cruel game at times and you often come away from matches scratching your head and wondering why didn't we win that game ?
And that's what I did on Saturday after the West Ham fixture because we dominated for a good seventy minutes and we made them look average I thought, and without doubt if we had got a deserved second goal we would have secured the points.
But once again we switched off and let them back in the game and lost to two goals that should never had happened which left us all frustrated once again because make no bones about it we should have won.
After the game I got talking to several City fans in the pub and gutted would sum up how they were all feeling and bemused at what should have been a win instead at yet another miserable defeat.
But a bit later on talk turned to what a lot of Sky Blue fans are predicting this season and that is relegation to League One and these die-hard City fans are already contemplating trips to Rochdale,Exeter, and Walsall amongst others.
That's how low the mood is now amongst Coventry supporters it's as if they are resigned to the drop down a division,as one fan said bluntly he can't see where the next win is coming from.
To be honest nor can I but what niggles me more than anything is watching the effort by the players on Saturday and knowing just a couple of decent loan signings could be enough to get us some much needed wins and a move away from the bottom of the table.
So it's Cardiff up next and the return of two ex players to possibly stick the knife in even deeper into our Sky Blue veins as if we aren't in enough pain as it is.

West Ham took a hammering? What game were you at? West Ham were very poor but Coventry were worse! You could hardly construct 2 passes without sending the ball into the stands!
Cardiff will destroy you
We do that often at our away games, quite happy to let the team have the ball so long as they[re not making chances, which is what happened at the weekend
6 wins, 2 draws and 1 loss away from home this season suggests it's quite a good tactic
We lost it for a simple reason, they had the quality on the bench to change the game around .... we didn't.
This game was shaping up very nicely, we had an excellent first half I was certain we were going to at least get a draw out of this. You have to give them credit, when they brought on Cole and Piquionne it changed the game. They looked much more threatening and the confidence drained from us. We had no answer for that and truth be told .. they should have made 1-3 when Jack Collison missed.
Our first 11 outplayed their first 11 but the championship is definitely a squad game as this match showed. This is the reason they are second from top and we are second from bottom. Very frustrating.
Green only had 1 save to make so you hardly dominated. I must say you have a lovely ground and some decent fans. We have won many games like that ie 3 shots 2 goals we are deadly when we get chances. Good luck for the rest of the season
coventry 1 west ham 2 6300 fans go home happy what more is there to say?
I didn't make the trip this weekend but I've been to most of west hams away games this season, from friends and comments read you had a good first half but what Big Sam has done for us has taught us how to defend last season we played decent football and got relegated. It may be ugly but look at Everton the amount of times I believed we were the better team etc they know how to win. West Ham are now a hard team to break down and with the likes of noble cole matt taylor tomkins green we should beat most teams and we have so many injuries! Lansbury, taylor, reid and demel on his way back all those 4 any championship team would have. If you look at Southampton vs West ham we lost 1-0 we didn't deserve to win but they scored for a corner couldn't break us down and we hit the post and i don't know how Nolan missed however that's life.
West Ham were defo poor in the first half but after substitutions were made there was only 1 winner. I think your headline is flattering for Coventry to be fair.. The table doesn't lie..
lol...
"West Ham took a hammering", hardly! Admittedly we were poor in the first half but you werent exactly tearing us apart. Your goal came against the run of play. The second half saw WH turn up the gas and the game should have been out of sight but for some sloppy finishing. That said I thought your midfield was better than ours for large periods of the game and if you continue to play that well should push up the table. Good luck against Cardiff.
By the way were were your fans on saturday maybe thats why your losing?
West Ham didn't take a battering Kev. They let us have possession, made us run around all over the place and restricted us to a few attempts on goal. We walked right into their trap. I've read some of their away reports this season and the way they played us was deliberate. They made us tire towards the end, stepped up a gear and took the points. Good signs for us though. They had plenty of fans but did they all have sore throats? hardly a sound from them and certainly not sustained support. We've had far less numbers from other clubs but they have made far more noise.
You would love our fan base then you wouldnt be going into administration. Irons
CCFC are joking and fooling you sky blues if they are quoting 20k crowd. It looked like 12k to me. 8 thousand difference is a massive lie. West Ham sell £1 tickets for kids which if you don't do soon you will have nothing to rely on.WHUFC have big crowds, a better atmoshere and fans for the future. You don't have any future if you carry on like this.
My own kids team play in the Coventry league and the kids are out there to be brought in.
I wonder what WHU crowds would be like after 11 years in the Championship, with only one 8th place finish to their name and the club being run into the ground.
Yep thought so.
Face facts you never ever have had big crowds. You rarely filled Highfield Road so you aint gonna fill the Ricoh. The stadium is lovely though but wasted on a team whos crowds rival Wigan Athletic. Admin here you come.
no big crowds eh
try these...29.8 67, 41,500 v notts forest
26.12 67 42,207v liverpool
with even bigger gates when ccfc were in div 2.
have west ham ever had over 40,000.i don't think so!
i rest my case.
Nick - erm... 1967 that was 44 years ago! When you could stand in terraces I'm not going to quote a west ham attendance but face it we're better than you 6300 fans to your stomping ground probably saved you from admin for a further week or two, next season say hello to our close friend Barry Hearn tell him he is sorely missed by the hammers faithful, we totally agree with him that a team that gets 4000 fans a week needs a 25k stadium.... Haha soon to be YOU so I hope you got a picture of your 42000 well let's rephrase that, a picture of coventry vs liverpool because it'll never happen in the league again bye bye coventry!
Nick,
Pretty simple to look up before you 'rest your case'!
1970 WHU v Spuds 42,322.
If we are having history lessons, 42,322 v Tottenham Hotspur Division One, 17 October 1970 on the attendance front.
Okay I may have been a bit over the top with my headline but I still maintain we should have won the game.As for the Hammers fans they did have a good following but were fairly silent for most of the game,as for us our home attendances are dropping season after season, only the hardcore left these days.As for crowd attendances Coventry were attracting bigger one's back when we were in the second and third divisions, and that was because we were a winning team. Those who don't come anymore will return but only when they see us at the top of this division, but alas they may have to wait a long time !
We have no intention of being there for more than 1 year, let lone 11!! sour graps mate, we won...get over it!
Good luck for your future your fans dont deserve the board you have. You are going down though no doubt and going into admin
Nick
