Why I'm relishing Coventry City's curtain raiser
TAKE your lack of signings, your failure to replace key players, your discontentment at the club's hierarchy and your growing pessimism regarding the team's survival chances and put them to the back of your mind. Or even better, remove them from your conscience altogether, much like you would with an ex-girlfriend or deceased pet.
Your average Joe would no-doubt require some form of therapy to forget the harrowing occurrences that us Sky Blues have had to endure this summer, but us City fans have seen it all before.
Alleviating ourselves of the pain and worry brought about by months of off-the-pitch turmoil should be surprisingly easy given that it's this very turmoil that seems to be omnipresent at the Ricoh.
For me at least, it was simple. That's not to say that these issues don't bother me, it's just that when I look ahead to the start of the new season I get pretty darn excited, and excitement has certainly been hard to come by over these past few months.
The turning point for me - the point at which the worries and doubts were rapidly replaced by the hullabaloo of a new season- came after reading a tweet by our very own Lukas Jutkiewicz:
"Banging out the back catalogue of Kasabian, still ridiculously bad ass tunes, shame we have to bring their team back down to earth Saturday!"
Now, not only was I delighted to see that our star striker and I share a similar taste in music; I was enthused by his passion and readiness for the new campaign.
This small and relatively insignificant tweet was enough to whet my footballing appetite to such an extent that I would be seriously worried about my health were the season not starting this Saturday.
I would rate our chances of victory as similar to the likelihood that I've had my phone hacked; extremely slim but not absolutely impossible (I wouldn't really deem any of my phone calls newsworthy- ordering a pizza is about as exciting as it gets- however with the widespread nature of phone hacking nowadays you can never be too sure).
Whether or not we're capable of beating the Foxes on Saturday doesn't detract from my great sense of anticipation. It promises to be a great occasion, with the strong away support adding to what is sure to be a lively atmosphere.
Bring. It. On.
