Coventry City must not sell Ben Turner
I've always tried my best to tolerate Sisu. I came to terms with the sales of Scott Dann and Dan Fox; I accepted Conor Thomas's loan to Liverpool; I shrugged off losing Marlon King, Keiren Westwood and Aron Gunnarsson. I've always tried to give the owners the benefit of the doubt.
But if Ben Turner is sold then I would tolerate their decisions no longer.
Not only is Turner our best defender, he's our best player. He's the embodiment of what a Coventry City player should be: loyal, honest, and committed to the last. In my eyes, he's a future captain of Coventry City, and the one man in our squad who is indispensable.
I usually agree with everything Alan Poole writes for the Telegraph, but I couldn't disagree more with his belief that, "most would probably accept his departure".
I would not accept the departure of Turner, unless it was for a huge fee, and I don't mean anything less than £5m upfront. I don't think he's worth a penny less.
Not only has Turner been with the club since he was a boy, the way he speaks with such unpractised honesty about the game makes him a credit to the club. In the days of players with clothes and cars more flashy than their skills, Turner shines through as an example of a dying breed: a footballer who lives for the game, not the rewards.
Not many players would throw themselves into a goalline clearance with their legs eye-wateringly wrapped around either side of the post. Not many put up with the level of criticism that Turner endured in his formative years with the club, only to emerge as one of the best central defenders in our division.
Coventry have enough a fair few central defenders. I'd rather see any two others sold rather than Turner. Sisu cannot speak the word 'investment' with any credibility ever again if Turner is sold for under value. If they are serious about this club Turner must be kept.
