Coventry City - Out of the frying pan into the fire?
With Gary Hoffman trying to do a deal for the club, maybe it is time we took a step back and looked at the situation dispassionately, if we can.
Yes Gary Hoffman is a City fan but his backers are likely to not be and as they are stated to be 'investors', they will be looking for a return on their money.
How much money have they got to put into the club now and how much have they got in reserve if plan 'A' fails?
We saw with SISU and Ray Ranson that their plans failed and they ran out of money. Now they are saddled with a club with minimal assets and no likelihood of seeing much of the reported £30 plus million they have 'loaned' the club.
We can all hope that the new 'investors' are in fact billionaires who want a toy, but the likelihood of that is slim.
The new investor's plans will involve undoubtedly trying to get into the Premiership as soon as possible as that realistically is where they will see a return on their investment. All well and good but the clubs relegated from the Premiership receive a massive £48 Million over 3 seasons now compared with the current Championship clubs meagre £7 million.
Their reported £15 Million may not be enough to achieve their goals.
Talk of restricting Championship clubs spending on player's salaries and expenditure in general will help providing they can be agreed. The relegated Premiership clubs may object if any proposed rules work against their interests.
So if SISU and Gary Hoffman can do a deal, we have to hope that the new investors have enough money to achieve their ambitions and are in it for the long haul or in a few years time we could find ourselves back in the same situation.

Had it not been for dodgy dealing and mis-management at the highest level at CCFC then, we would still be in the top flight. We were there for 34 years only bettered by a couple of clubs. Investors out there have to realise, give CCFC a good team with a positive plan for the future, top flight manager (with respect to Mr Thorn) and eventual ownership of the stadium then they will see a fair return on their investmwnt. I know there is Russian money out there just looking for a home and where better to come to but Coventry. Noel
