Have Coventry City been "found out"?

Spending time with family, eating too much and familiarising myself with newly received presents have provided a pleasant distraction from the spectacular demise of Coventry City over the festive period.

What started as an unlucky defeat to Norwich ultimately progressed to a capitulation against Barnsley, with hard-to-swallow results against Cardiff, QPR and Ipswich coming along the way.

Throughout our journey towards the play-off positions, players were queuing up to spearhead the push for glory.

Back in September it was Clive Platt, but the title of "Talismanic Sky Blue" has been adorned by the likes of McSheffrey, Nathan Cameron and James McPake since then, all of whom came to represent all that was right in the Coventry City camp whilst we walked hand in hand with victory.

Sustained high-quality performances from a number of players within the team led us to believe that our squad was capable of achieving great things, but was that just an illusion?

It's hard to pinpoint a single factor that has caused our recent poor run. One can only suggest that we've been unlucky enough to have been handed multiple fixtures against strong opposition in a short space of time, however everyone is aware that there's no such thing as an easy game in this league.

So have the Sky Blues been found out? Are we nothing more than a mediocre mid-table side that cheekily masqueraded as play-off contenders whilst the sleeping giants of the league (Nottingham Forest, Leeds etc.) were slow to get going?

For me, the answer is no, and I remain optimistic about our prospects for this season. We've shown earlier in the campaign that we're more than capable of utilising a bit of momentum to produce a prolonged run of good results. The trouble lies in getting ourselves out of the rut that we're currently stuck in.

Perhaps a flukey deflection or questionable bit of refereeing will provide that spark, but ideally one would hope that it can come from within the team. Maybe an injection of life into the squad through the acquisition of a loan player will do the trick, however you have to wonder whether there are enough seats in the dressing room to accommodate any more bodies.

Whatever happens, comfort can be taken from the fact that there have been little to no signs of panic or distress shown so far, making the whole palaver surrounding our poor run of form a lot easier to take.
