Pushing forward Coventry City's youngsters
AIDY BOOTHROYD has got a good reputation for giving young players a chance and has already complemented the quality of City's young players
He also has made clear his desire to get competition for all places in the side. Among his signings so far have been full backs Richard Keogh and Stephen O'Hallaran.
Some fans like me believe Jordan Clarke is ready for the step up. I've also written before about the management needing to trust Chris Hussey more
I presume the two signings will be first choice and Jordan and Chris will need to impress to displace them. The problem is they dont have enough opportunities to show what they can do
One of Chris Coleman's decisions that I just couldn't understand was the reluctance to run a regular competitive reserve side
Surely our young players need this to be tested in regular match situations. We've given contracts to three academy graduates again this year. They need a place learn thier trade before they can make the step up to the championship
The Telegraph today suggests we are looking for another goalkeeper. Danny Ireland who's been at the club for a while will fall down the pecking order again
I know Danny has been loaned out. It's one way of getting young players experience I agree. But observing them regularly in reserve games is surely better. They are also readily on hand if need be
I felt for Shaun Jeffers who got a few minutes in some games last season. He'd had so little competitive action it was hard for him to impress in these brief appearences
The games we arranged last season were few and far between. They were also against opponents of variable quality, and I doubt much was gained from them
I don't know Aidy's viewpoint on this perhaps he agrees with Chris Coleman. If not is it still possible to sign up for a competitive league?
We could agree to play the matches at Nuneaton as we did once before. I know the coaching staff has reduced with Frankie Bunn leaving. However couldn't Steve Ogrizovic be asked to manage it along with his goalkeeping coach duties

I think you would find CC would have loved a reserve team but budgets wouldnt allow it!!!
Chris,
You may be right.I've written about this before and suggested that could be the reason. If it is Ray Ranson should say so.Chris Coleman was prepared to come out and say it was his decision. That may be his way of covering for the chairman
I still believe if it is an economy it's a false one.
Now I've read todays Telegraph in full its clear we need another keeper if Ireland's injured. I hope when he's back Danny's progress isnt blocked though
Super informative wrtiing; keep it up.
Action requires knolwedge, and now I can act!
