Lessons learnt from Coventry City's pre season friendlies

LOOKING at our pre season results it would be easy to decide we have a super defence and a useless attack

Six clean sheets in a row are a manager's dream whatever the class of opposition. However five goals scored in those games is less impressive

But as I've written before it's clear that the pre season a lot more experimentation has been going on than we might usually see. Aidy needs to firm up for the West Brom game and show both the players and fans exactly who might play against Portsmouth and in what formation

As most of the squad even down to young Connor Thomas have been tried out he must have an idea of the strengths and weaknesses of his squad. Saying that players like Stephen O'Hallaran,Richard Wood, and David Bell who must be in his plans havent been a big part of the pre season.

Martin Crainie,Shaun Jeffers, and Chris Hussey have all been tried out in unfamiliar roles. From the reports I've seen Hussey, and Freddy Eastwood have shown up well in games. Roy O'Donovan seems to have missed a few chances

Michael Mcindoe appears to have been largely disregarded. Personally I'm surprised Garry McSheffery hasn't been used more

While its clear we have been playing free flowing football and creating chances we'll still need to hit the target when the season starts

While another forward would help the key in the short term may be in establishing a settled forward partnership. I tend to agree with Aidy that the current group of forwards should be able to get goals

Last night Eastwood and Justkiewicz seemed to develop a decent partnership from what I've read.

If were not wedded to 4-4-2 and the Carsley signing suggest that may be the case we might play a single forward with McSheffery and possibly Baker striking from wide positions.

There are certainly enough options and more once another addition to the squad comes in. I feel we need to address the lack of goals without panicking about it

Possibly the team and formation played against West Brom will give us all an idea what Aidy has in mind
