My own Sky Blues soul searching

AFTER the poor performance against Reading made clear the season is coming to a dismal end many fans have sunk into a pit of despair. The non performance against Sheffield Utd just made everyone feel worse

For myself the feeling is worse because I'm convinced the team is better than this. I dont agree entirely with my fellow bloggers who think the squad isn't good enough

It can always do with being stronger but I believe it's good enough to compete for the lower play off places. The problem all season has been a lack of self confidence.

For a while they showed the ability they possess but when it came to the crunch they didnt have the mental strength that was needed

I've been saying all season we don't move the ball forward with pace. Our build up play is slow and predictable. However I do believe we have pace in the side

Baker is an obvious example. The much maligned Bell has showed he has natural ability and speed of thought. He appears to be short of confidence to express it. He rarely tries to beat a man because of it

The squad is well served for defenders though I agree Wright is past his best and Barnett is an addition we don't need

The midfield especially with Osbourne back shows variation. Walker would have added to that. Cain would have provided the pace some of my fellow bloggers require

Upfront we've been short all season and we must finally move for the twenty goal a season striker we so badly need

But its worth asking why the confidence of the team has been so low all season. This has to come from the top

Chris Coleman has spent all season producing systems to stop opposition he deems "better" than his team. He tells the media we are not a team "to beat anybody 2 to 3 nil".

He tells fans thinking off coming to see us play to "not expect anything like Brazil"

That's just a few comments. If he doesn't rate his team why should they rate themselves. We've suffered sending offs and bookings all season, and showed poor discipline without a comment from the manager. Indeed he's more indisciplined than they are

The team spirit also looks poor. In the Telegraph recently Gunnarson said the team doesn't socialise together. Morrison suggested some players "don't care".That would have made him popular with the fans, but not with his fellow players.

Like most fans I'm not ready to easily say lets get rid of another manager. However the way things are going it's hard to argue for a renewal of Chris Coleman's contract when it expires

I've said it before and I'll say it again; changing manager will do much more harm than good. It's taken Coleman this long to get a squad anywhere near the one he wanted, and the short-lived playoff run showed what the team is capable of. In that sense, I definitely agree that the squad is not too shabby.

Changing manager will only lead to large-scale upheaval of the playing staff; the likes of which we've seen with the past 3 or 4 City managers. At the moment I think it's a case of the players switching off now that there's supposedly nothing to play for.

how about switching off their wages?
Most people would be fired for having these so called 'professional players' attitude.

Hello TJL,
I've never called for an immeadiate change of manager. Rather I've suggested Chris Coleman's record should be reviewed at the end of his current contract. He surely must be judged on the performance during the entire season rather than part of it. The prospect of three lower table finishes in a row hardly suggest progress. Our aim is to get to the Premiership is Chris the man to get us there?.As the squad is capable of so much better it's hard to see a change of manager bieng very disruptive. Regardless of the squad however, the players we have regularly "fail to turn up". Why is this ?
can Chris put it right. That's what hes payed to do
