Football to sleep by
IT was a lovely hot day on Saturday and I have to admit it one moment in the second half I closed my eyes and dozed for a short while
That's not surprising when in this awful game my team managed one shot on target in that second half.As this sorry season comes to an end it's hard to summon up enthusiasm for the last game of the season
Many of the features of our play I've seen all season were there yet again. A slow predictable build up and a lack of conviction up front. Yet we began brightly scoring first with even Michael McIndoe shining briefly
Then we fell apart as the game went on because of the lack of self belief that's been obvious all season.
Time after time players on the ball either failed to have the confidence to make a forward pass,or had no options because thier fellow players didn't offer any
4-4-2 demands wide players drive in accurate crosses from the flanks. David Bell appears to have no confidence to beat players and risk losing the ball. Our full backs rarely come forward as support either
Chris Coleman identifies a lack of confidence in the players but appears incapable of doing anything about it. In the very first game against Ipswich we nearly blew a two goal lead and had to hang on for a win,so this is nothing new
The side can always do with being stengthened, but I'm convinced the present squad should have done better this year and we should ask why they havent.
Some of my fellow bloggers are calling for Chris Coleman's head. I believe his lack of motivational skills, become more obvious by the day.
It seems unlikely Ray Ranson will take that step while he's still in contract. Above anything else a cost would be involved
Earlier in the season I wrote about the importance of sports psychology. The current issue of Four Four Two magazine has an article on a company called InnerDrive who've worked with premier league players among others on increasing confidence levels
Perhaps he should give them a ring
