The power of self belief

I believe that in the first half on Saturday City had thirteen attempts on the Scunthorpe goal. In a performance full of fast flowing football it seemed a crying shame we hadn't scored

Having sat through many disjointed shot shy halves this season It was a delight to see.But with the exception of Jon Stead and Carl Baker it was much the same as the team who've dissapointed so often this season

The difference of course is suddenly the players seem to believe in thier own ability. That's what getting into the winning habit can provide

The sending off early in the second half changed the nature of the game. But it showed qualities in the City team that we're just as great to see.

Not only did we continue to see a great deal of quality in the play we saw a fierce will to win To have a penalty saved and play so long with ten men showed a determination to achieve a result.

It's great to see a revitalised City but you're left with the feeling where has this been all season?. Too many poor performances earlier on means we have to keep winning to maintain a late season challenge

For all that a City who play like this are worth watching up to the end of the season. In Jon Stead we have a forward who seems to have more all round ability than Leon Best.

Carl Baker continues to impress as does James McPake in defence. But for me the best part of the game was seeing the sort of performance from Aron Gunnarson that was commonplace last season

I was irritated by the poor quality of Michael Mcindoes crosses. Clinton Morrison was the usual mixture of erratic shooting and dodgy temprement

But overall I was delighted by our performance. Is this a new Coventry City of substance who can challenge for the top six ?.

It still seems a tall order but in a key period we face Leicester and West Brom away in a week. This will be a test of where we are at

If Chris Coleman can achieve a top ten place in line with the placing in Micky Adams first year he can rightly point to progress at the end of the season whether the play off dream is achieved or not.

But I suppose we all have a right to dream until then

I think that is is fair to say that the last time we played Peterborough and Plymouth Chris Coleman's job was on the line and we won both matches. I equally think that unless we beat them again then our top 6 ambition will die. Let's hope that it doesn't and that by the time we play Leicester and West Brom that we are in the mix.
