Coventry City bottle it yet again
TWO home games in the last four days have brought the City just a single point and probably heralded the end of our play off hopes
Once again faced with a challenge to achieve something City have bottled it on the big occasion. A team looking to make the play offs really should beat one second from bottom at home.
After a poor first half against Plymouth we improved in the second but were always chasing the game. What happened to the team who created so many first half chances against Scunthorpe in the previous home game ?
Last night was as the Telegraph said "the crunch". As Richard Wood said in the same issue we have to earn the right to make the play offs by beating the teams round us
Cardiff are a good side but not better than the Forest team we thoroughly mastered only a few games ago. But we were outclassed when it really mattered.
Whinging about penalties is par for the course for our manager, but the truth is without Westwood last night we'd have lost long before that.
And so Chris Coleman's powers of motivation have to be questioned again. I've said before that the real test of the team was the two tough away games that follow.
I little expected the team would fold before we got to them. We have to win at least one to revive faint play off hopes. The danger is losing both will slip us down the table and create the finale to the season no one wants
It's still the case that a top ten finish can be viewed as progress. We need Chris Coleman to motivate the players to come again
I give Chris Coleman credit for making half time subs against Plymouth which affected the result. However having said he'd freshen up the side last night he made no unforced changes.
Surely Eastwood was worth a go last night from the start or at least earlier from the bench. In my opinion in the absence of our best passer Clingan, a better option in central midfield would have been a class passer like Baker.
But that was probably marginal to the result. The players took the lead last night and were thoroughly bested from there.
Sport is part mental and teams have to press home thier advantage at vital times. Here's to a performance on Sunday that shows BBC viewers Coventry City can compete with the best

I dont think this really reflects what has happened is the past 2 home games. If we had taken one of a many second half chances against plymouth and if the absoloutely ridiculous penelty decision wasnt given, we would be in a very good position to move into the play-offs. If we can get a point against Leicester and reults go our way, with 2 home games against sheffield wednesday and Derby coming up, we could be right back in the fight. PUSB!! Wardy
I like your optimism Tom. If we'd scored another in the second half against Plymouth our points total would look better. Perhaps if Eastwood had been put on earlier that may have happened. As for Cardiff even if without the penalty we'd squeaked a 1-1 draw we'd still have missed out on the chance to go above them and neutralise the game in hand they still have. We must beat Leicester now. I believe they can,but do the players?. They seemed intimidated by the occasion on Tuesday night and were outclassed by Cardiff. We've beaten better teams at home this season
How can you possibly say we bottled it? The players have done really well to get us into our current position. We've fallen short in our last two games simply because we are not quite good enough. We have a team full of honest endeavour yet are perhaps a couple of players shy of being a genuine top six side.
I missed the Scunthorpe game but from all the recent home games I've been to I'd be struggling to name a game where we were clearly the better side. In my opinion, results have been much better than performances but this is not to the team's discredit, it shows how they have been grinding results out in tough games.
I don't see the logic in over-stating that we 'bottled it'. We've over-acheived recently so let's give the players some credit for that.
You're entitled to your opinion Michael.Id like to hope we're good enough to beat Plymouth at home. And as for Cardiff they are a good side but so are Forest and we beat them at home. We were excellent that day I hope you'd admit. It seems clear to me that faced with having to win a high pressure game City were intimidated by the occasion. The play offs are gone but to make them next season more mental strength's required. The squad can always do with strengthening whilst it's not strong enough for automatic promotion it should be competing for the lower play off places
