It's another game of two halves
LISTENING in to the Newcastle game last night I was delighted by our first half performance.
It seemed to suggest we could come away with something from this tough fixture
Clearly how we started the second half was vital. But sadly Newcastle swept us away and scored in the first ten minutes
Suddenly the hard fought close encounter of the first half was history. In a season when weve hardly ever put in a consistent ninety minutes this drop off in form in a second half has become a constant feature
We've seen it against rock bottom Peterborough as well as table toppers Newcastle
Effectively the second half was no contest. Many of our attempts to go forward were beaten back by poor passing. Players intimidated by the occasion seemed to lose thier self belief
Our defenders under constant pressure not surprisingly buckled under it. 4-1 may have been cruel, but the post mortem needs to ask what happened to that first half performance
At the end of the day we were hammered and saying never mind we matched them for an hour doesnt seem to do it for me
I want to compliment Chris Coleman for not packing midfield and hoping for a draw. If we really hope to get out of this division we must compete with the best
The first half suggested we could, but football is played over ninety minutes. The sending off clearly affected the scale of the defeat. But I'm left to think with a bit more self belief we just might have got something
It's worth remembering that we played well against these same Newcastle players at home and were unlucky to lose 2-0. But there it was yet another away defeat. let's try and learn the lessons.
A performance of the quality of the first half last night but sustained throughout the game should bring a win against Crystal Palace.

I agree with your comments, we are good at playing for forty odd minutes, but alas, a football match is ninety plus,we just can't keep it up !
It's that dreaded word again, Confidence, we just haven't got enough of it,and if you lack it, I'm afraid in any sport, you ain't going to go very far, and that's a fact !
