In praise of Carl Baker

SOMETIMES when City bring in a player who's not a name were familiar with from a lower division club it's very easy to sneer

But in these days of mass foriegn imports there are still cases of quality players who've found themselves in the lower divisions

in his short time with the club Carl Baker has impressed me as a player of great technique who will be a great asset to the squad.

There seems a hunger there to prove himself in a higher grade of football. There's also a positive streak to his game that appeals to me

In his debut he took the ball from Sammy Clingan and instead of closing the game down he created a goal by a positive run in the box.

in a City team that so often appears short of confidence we need more players with that positive attitude.

He's already shown he's capable of playing on either wing and off the main striker.I'll be watching his progress with interest.

We're all aware of the misfortune he's faced in his private life and admire him for the strength of character he must have shown to come through it. I feel sure he must have a role to play in Coventry City's future

It has to be said Gary Deegan also looks a very good purchase and Chris Coleman's transfer record is generally very good.Praise is doubtless also due to Chief Scout Andy Thorn

Here's to a good team performance against Crystal Palace and another wholehearted one from Carl Baker should he play
