Goals To Newcastle

COLEMAN'S tactics at home to Blackpool at the weekend followed by the sale of Leon Best to Newcastle has me wondering if we have just given up entirely on trying to score more than once in any game.

Leon Best will score a lot of goals at Newcastle, I reckon, and although his final destination was not quite what was expected his departure had the same element of surprise as finding out John Terry deals in chaos.

What beggars belief is that the Club knowing it would trade this asset at worst at the end of the season has done nothing to replace Leon Best.

It was clear Best was never going to sign another contract so we should have been actively seeking a loanee replacement since early November.
I know we are a bit strapped but surely we could stretch to a few phone calls and a financial risk which even in a bankrupt industry equates to chump change in a few extra months salary - assuming Best had stayed - which he didn't.

Expect some interesting body language from Morrison over the next few months - he will have a bit to do alongside Eastwood which is surely how it will look - with Baker seizing the place of the ineffectual McIndoe.

In the absence of reserve team football Deegan and Hussey will struggle to make the grade quick enough and the defence will still be flaky whilst Cranie is out of position and Wright huffs and puffs as he looks back toward his own goal.

Good luck to Besty who couldn't be expected to score hatfuls with no service - he will at least have one buddy for a month or so as he joins Van Aanholt who has turned up on loan because they said it is okay to have a pop on goal every now and then.

Change the Manager - what and churn the whole squad - again.
Ranson can't and won't.

No no let us stick with Coleman's City as we set off in search of another little winning run.
With a squad that averages a goal a game and thirty percent of those have come from a player we have now sold.

Good luck with that Chris - I am sure there must be some magic beans for sale on ebay somewhere - ask Ray to lend you the cash.

It was obvious Best would be sold before his contract was out - Ranson's financial mindset is too ruthless and i wish him the best(!) of luck...

However, Coleman's problems lie deeper than finding another quality player to replace Best. Neither Morrison or Eastwood can pick out high balls and hold up play as well as Best could, so until (and if) a striker comes in our entire attacking tactics will have to be shaken up.

Morrison works best poaching in and around the area and Eastwood thrives on through balls and taking on defenders. I think short term attacking success will hinge on whether Coleman has the intelligence and ability to change the play (which will hopefully produce a more attractive style).

great article, PUSB
