Battling to Victory
SOMETIMES the beautiful game just comes down to a battle and the winners are the most determined team on the day
With the pitch looking very heavy and rain making it worse Coventry City had to dig deep to secure victory against QPR today
It was a match of few concrete chances, not because of any lack of fluency going forward from either side, but because both sets of defenders dominated.
There was an outstanding performance from the City defence. In particular Richard Wood was excellent, and Martin Cranie performed well out of position.
But also the QPR defenders bottled up the Eastwood Morrison combination that looked so good on Tuesday. I thought Chris Coleman rightly reacted to that by giving Freddie Sears a go from the substitutes bench
City scored the goal that mattered and won the game at the end of the day. I rarely felt threatened by the QPR attacks. The really solid chance they created was the one so brilliantly saved by Westwood however
The City defence who've looked comical at times this season has now kept two clean sheets in a week and seemed transformed
Amazingly after the tenth minute goal City didnt get a shot on target till seventy eight minutes were on the clock. Then of course there was that last minute chance for Eastwood.
However unlike earlier in the season we seemed to move forward with a degree of conviction. We also defended as a team and unlike some times this season showed a
great fighting spirit
Two wins in a week have given everybody a lift. What we need to do is show the same positivity and enterprise that QPR showed today in our next away game
