The play off dream

THE thing about the play offs is it gives teams low in the table at this time of year a chance to dream that with a series of wins the season can still be a great one

In Coventry City's case Im tempted to shout WAKE UP. Our tenth defeat of the season showed us bieng outplayed by Ipswich, a team who've spent a fair part of this season in the drop zone

And still we have trips to West Brom,Newcastle, and Middlesborough to come. How many points will we get from that trio ?

Our series of wins have been part balanced by the last two away defeats. We perhaps have to look again at the gap between us and the bottom places

Depressingly yesterday's defeat showed all of the negatives that have been clear to see all season.A lead as early as the second minute created no confidence boost in the players at all. What followed was in effect NOTHING

As is now customary a goal was conceded just before half time, and to add insult to injury early in the second half

It's not that we don't have good defenders. We certainly have enough choices there.Rather its that who ever we choose do not seem to concentrate properly through a full ninety minutes. The management must take responsibility for this

As Chris Coleman pointed out earlier in the season we use far too many passes moving forward with the ball . To create chances the ball has to be passed to feet at pace. There is such a lack of conviction in our attack few result in direct shots

At times we looked good at this in the home games against Newcastle and Doncaster. All to often the build up is slow and predictable For this lack of conviction the managment should take responsibility.

Except for a period of five minutes in the second half, which featured another glaring miss by Morrison we never looked like getting back in the game

For all that we did after a fine piece of play by Carl Baker. To then be unable to protect the point for such a short while was a source of rage to me

Was it to our manager ?.He chose to make a fool of himself about time keeping. The amount of time announced is announced as a minimum. The board is always raised before the ninety minutes is up. As Roy Keane said the answer is to "play to the whistle" something City didnt do

After his antics after the Chelsea match last year seemingly he'll be in trouble again. We have a long difficult end of season to come

If all of the performances are as inadequate as this the play offs are no more than an idle dream

There are one and a half years left on Chris Coleman's contract. Does anyone really believe we can challenge for the play offs in that time.Is there a concrete case for renewing it ?
