In support of Referees

MOST games I attend at the Ricoh every decision a referees make that penalises City is roundly booed however justified it might be

Radio and TV pundits often with the benefit of slow motion playbacks the referee doesnt have routinely rubbish thier decisions

Managers who should no better sound off at press conferences, resolved to take the fine on the chin

Who'd be a referee. They may make honest mistakes but are doing thier best. What would the game do without them

The FA's respect agenda died the death somewhat. But all of us have to calm the passion we all feel and get a bit more rational

I dont say that concrete improvements can't be made to help referees and take the heat out of the situation though. New technology for controversial goal line decisions for example

Every week I see linesmen missing offsides because they cant keep up with players fifeteen to twenty years younger than them.Experiments with additional linesmen have been tried in Italy.

Fast tracking younger fitter referees is possible but will they be accepted easily.

My own pet hate is the two yellow cards make a red rule. Too many games are ruined by players being sent off for two trivial offences. An extra card for minor offences has been suggested

Possibly to cure that refs should bear in mind a card is a last resort, and issue a warning more regularly

Whatever changes are made the status quo will work better with tolerance and understanding.

Chris Coleman does not set a good example. His charge last year that the ref in the Chelsea match was "smug" was childish and pathetic. At Derby he declared we had a "different ref" in the second half whatever that means

His ill informed comments on timekeeping on Saturday were calmly put in perspective by Roy Keane. The most volatile of players, seems a calmer manager

Maybe it's easy to be calm when you've won 3-2. But if Chris Coleman doesnt respect referees how can he expect his players to
