Coleman and Ranson - Transfer Lessons Learned

Chris Coleman's quote before Christmas about the possible sale of a fan's favourite during January's transfer window was a clever piece of PR brought about following last summer's mistakes.

Prior to the summer, SISU stated their aim of keeping the big four and adding the likes of Beckford and Driver plus other to the squad. When the expected money didn't materialise and two of the four were sold to bigger clubs, Ransom and Coleman were left with egg on their faces.

Prior to this transfer window, Coleman made that statement about possibly selling a fans favourite to a bigger club be it a Premiership club or a bigger Championship club specifically naming WBA and Newcastle.

Strange that WBA were deemed to be bigger than us, Newcastle yes but WBA are probably a similar sized club. They have however benefited financially from yo-yoing between the Premiership and the Championship.

No mention of Middlesbrough for those conspiracy theorists among us who were also relegated.

So if no one leaves during this transfer window it is a coup, if some one leaves for a bigger club be it Premiership, Newcastle or WBA, then Chris did warn us this time.

Of course, WBA are a bigger club than us! We have never been a big club, which is why our record in the top flight is something to be proud of. WBA, Wolves, Brum and the Vile are all bigger than us, so are Forest and Derby
