Getting to Rock Bottom

ON Boxing Day 1999 City beat Arsenal 3-2 in the Premiership. Nearly ten years on yesterday we were out fought by Scunthorpe United

Scunthorpe should be congratulated for the way the've risen up the league pyramid but this most recent result seems to be a symbol of our decline

As a supporter of a team who spent over thirty years in the top division and won the FA Cup in that time,I do look for a win out of an away match with Scunthorpe

Chris Coleman said before the game it would be as hard as the QPR game but one look at the table should suggest that isnt so

But our opponents stuck together as a team and had a fierce belief in thier own ability in contrast to ourselves

The terrible defending for the goal does ask questions about Chris Coleman's preferred defensive partnership. But the real cause of the defeat is when facing a half time defecit City's first effort on goal was in the 81st minute

A goal in that frantic last ten minutes would have been welcome. But it would have just been papering over the cracks

A feature of this season has been poor defending,a lack of conviction going forward, and a general lack of self belief. All were there to see yesterday

In the week that the chairman tried to convince us of the clubs bright future this result seems like a reality check. We are fifth from bottom just above the zone and realistically in a relegation fight

It's a fight we have to win because it's hard to see the club surviving on league one gates. Most fans will look to the Newcastle game with a degree of dread. Certainly if yesterdays team plays like that we will get a pasting

I strongly feel to show he wont take that level of performance Chris Coleman should make wholesale changes for the next game

This may or may not make the result worse. But it would give a powerful message to the players who so badly underperformed, and the fans the club depend on
