Chin Up
AND THE AWARD for the most forgettable game of Coventry City's 09/10 season goes to...Scunthorpe (Away) on the 6th December. I don't imagine that the Sky Sports team will be rushing to offer us more televised games after this afternoon's showing, and who could blame them?
Before I attempt to completely eradicate today's fixture from my memory, I feel that I should do my best to try and squeeze some positives out of what was frankly a dire game of football.
I think it's fair to say that we dominated the second half, and could've even grabbed a goal had we possessed more cutting-edge in the final third.
I tried to muster up some sympathy for Madine after missing two clear-cut chances, but at the end of the day it's reasonable to assume that he is earning a considerable amount of money to put the ball in the back of the net, and failing to do so will not please anyone.
That said he's still young, but I think the jury's still out as to whether his presence will really benefit the team.
Coleman cut the figure of a very frustrated man. It didn't require an expert lip reader to determine what he thought of the referee after being told to stay within the breaches of his technical area.
Whether or not you agree with Coleman that the referee was a "Wat Fanker", it has to be said that our demise was a result of our own wrong doings, and that refereeing decisions played no major role in determining today's outcome.
The halftime hair-dryer treatment definitely had an effect. We defended more solidly and looked livelier in attack after the break, but once again something just didn't click.
Although they were undoubtedly at fault for the goal, I still feel that there's potential in the defensive pairing of Wood and Barnett. Given time to gel, there's a chance that they might present us with a little more solidity at the back; something that we definitely need.
If the current poor run of form continues, I can see a certain section of the fan base becoming uneasy with Coleman being at the helm. However, I have absolute faith in Ray Ranson, not only to support the manager, but to take this club in the right direction. Let's just hope our fortunes change against Newcastle on Wednesday.

well written report. the author has more faith in ranson than most of us now!
