A light at the end of the tunnel

RARELY do I leave the Ricoh in a decent mood when City have been beaten 2-0 but last night was an honourable exception.

In my last blog I asked for the sort of passion and commitment we showed in the Carling Cup game last year and incredibly that's just what I got.

Do the players read and respond to this sort of stuff?. I don't suppose so, but I was still gratified to see a performance that deserved a share of the points

The defence on the whole coped well and I don't believe either goal was bad defensively.I have championed both Cranie and Grandison at the back and both did well.

I've not been so sure about Barnett. He's seemed one of the roughest central defenders I can remember at the club. As he became the senior partner with Grandison he seemed to grow into the role.

Our self belief has been fragile all season. So much so that once we concede we've tended to collapse. This didn't happen this time. With a bit of luck we would have salvaged something in a spirited second half display.

At one point a sweeping crossfield play at pace ended with Cork squaring for Eastwood to get a shot in that was charged down.

This was a world away from our laboured approach going forward for much of the season
Ive always argued that the current squad is short in a number of areas, but the present players can and should do better.

I think Freddie Eastwood is a good example of a player who's really applying himself in recent matches. As Morrison continues to struggle I continue to believe a Best/Eastwood combination should be tried upfront.

Well done City but this is but one game. A performance like this would have beaten Scunthorpe. The next away game is at Plymouth. A result will be vital, but shall we see another performance like the last away game.

Only time will tell. First we have Peterborough at home. Already Chris Coleman is stressing its importance in the Telegraph.

Perhaps, to use the old Brian Clough maxim, he should tell the players privately.

If you can't beat Peterborough at home you deserve to be in the relegation zone.
