Playing for the full ninety minutes
AT half time in the game against Palace I was not pleased with my afternoon.Yet again City moved forward with a total lack of conviction.
Keiron Westwood had to make a couple of smart saves to limit the scoreline to just one nil down. Our first effort on goal was in the forty fourth minute
Yet we scored in the forty seventh and what followed was a totally commited energetic flowing second half performance. I was delighted to see that, and in the end we deserved a point and might have won the game
As a team we seem short on confidence and only produce our best if things go our way. If we'd shown that level of performance in the first half we wouldnt have been chasing the game
Predictably Chris Coleman in his after match comments declared we were the better team in the first half. This i just didnt see.
He also praised the strikers. Whilst I agree Leon Best gave another excellent performance I thought Clinton Morrison was largely ineffective
Freddie Eastwood showed signs of his old form against Reading. While Morrison's performances have levelled off it may be worth considering a change upfront
Indeed while the team played so hard in driving rain I was suprised more substitutions weren't made on Saturday
Whatever led to the good second half performance I hope we carry it forward for the full ninety minutes in the away game against QPR.
I know Chris puts the improvement down to David Bell's return. He certainly had a good game though was as ineffective as the rest in the first half
But I dont put our poor results down to not playing 4-4-2. Some of our better results came playing a single striker. If a right winger was the key all along I don't understand why Ashley Cain wasn't played more in Bell's absence
No it's clear the team performances have been marked by a general lack of self belief
Let us hope this point does mark a change in that.
I want to see the club do all they can to hold on to our leading scorer when the window opens. Also I want the players to show the same drive and commitment in away games starting at QPR.
