In Praise of the Transfer Window

MOST Managers agree the Transfer window is a bad thing. But personally I have always seen the point of it

It seems to me its an attempt to create a more level playing field in that managers outside of the window openings cant buy thier way to winning positions. They have to stick with the players they have and show coaching ability to get the best out of them

Off course some provision had to be made for some of those players picking up long term injuries when a window was closed

Hence the ability to make loan transfers. But in the Championship loan players are brought in as a matter of course these days rather than in exceptional times

The Telegraph recently reported that Chris Coleman is looking to bring in Richard Wood on loan prior to a transfer in January. If this is true that would mean no less than six loan players at Coventry City.

That would be four defenders one midfielder and a striker. There are questions about what
opportunities this gives players we actually own. It's not quite in the spirit of the Transfer Window but its a rough world out there when you're three points off the relegation zone

It would also create the remarkable statistic that we would have no less that NINE players in the squad capable of playing at centre half. It's to be hoped some pruning of this mass of options is in mind for January.

Chris is on record as saying he wants permanent deals for four of them. Presumably Chelsea wont hear of letting go thier two players

All of this is in contrast to the fact that we've hung on with three forwards all season. We also have Jeffers and Madine off course though they seem to have had little opportunity for action lately.
As the club will doubtless face offers for Leon Best in January there's the prospect of our striker resources getting thinner

I do feel the club need to target thier resources more precisely. Its to be hoped a defensively stronger City take the field against Crystal Palace. And also a City that's hungry for goals and believes in thier own ability
