Time to turn up and be counted

"COVENTRY CITY are hoping for their biggest gate of the season on Saturday" declared yesterdays Telegraph. I should hope they are. Put it like this, if it isn't, all of us, Chris Coleman, the team, Ray Ranson, SISU and the fans might as well give up.

Given that the biggest crowd so far has been the pitiful 16700 who turned up last week for the Middlesborough game and that Leicester as always will be supported in huge numbers, even if it's just the diehards who turn up we should be looking at a minimum 20 000.

That though would still be a disappointment based on the teams endeavours in the past week.

The boys have come in for some stick recently and many of us have questioned both their mental strength and winning mentality.

We demanded a reaction and got it. The comeback against Boro was as welcome as it was unexpected whilst the victory over an in form Watford side was terrific.

I think the lads deserve our backing on Saturday. It's time now that those extra three or four thousand who've been conspicuous by their absence thus far turn up at the Ricoh tomorrow lunchtime.

Alan Poole wrote a very interesting piece in last Saturdays Telegraph about our attendances so far this season and how we were bottom of the table when it came to comparing average crowds against stadium capacity.

The stat though that took my eye was our lowly percentage of supporters against the city population. A measly 5% of people who live in this fine city turning up on a regular basis to support our team.

We all have the right to vote with our feet and quite often with what's gone on it's quite understandable that the floating supporter stays away but apart from the Preston collapse it's been a really promising couple of weeks.

We all want a successful team. Let's demonstrate that on Saturday with 20 000 Sky Blue voices all singing together for OUR TEAM.
