Fortress Ricoh?
BACK in August, in the light of a number of variants, two main ones being the lack of transfer activity and the loss of key players, we appeared to have quite a subdued set of fans, myself included.
To see that we had in some way strengthened the club, in anyway other than financially was hard to take on board.
I have to admit though, with a quarter of the season over, perhaps there were other 'benefits seeds' being sown, that didn't have a pound sign in front of it.
The team, with of course the usual Sky blue dose of inconsistency thrown in for good measure, has looked a more rounded affair over these first 11 games, with a slight ironic tone that for once, our problems that have in previous seasons always been of the 'goals for' nature, now appears to be more along the lines of 'goals against'.
For certain, the sales of Dann and Fox have changed things for us, but Ward/Cranie/Hall and Van Aanholt should be more than capable of filling that void, but for some reason they just haven't stepped up to the mark.
If it had not have been for some, now stereotypical, performances from our wonder goalkeeper, Keiren Westwood, our defensive frailties would have been highlighted even further.
Overall, this has been a good, if not above expectation, start to this season and with a quarter of it now virtually gone, you can start to look at league positions and see the wood for the trees a little.
I believe that our season will be judged, not by the arrival of a loan striker but more on two critical actions on the clubs part;
1) We must sure up at the back, we have the defensively minded Coleman to hopefully achieve this, since I do believe the players we have, Wardy being a big part of this, are more than capable of reducing these unforced errors that are costing us dearly of late and
2) January - it's simple, we MUST keep Keiren Westwood
Do this and we could have a season with some promise, I am yet to be convinced we have a team worthy of a top six finish, but certainly top half should we remain strong and resolved.
All we can do for now though is watch this space and hope that Fortress Ricoh starts to live up to its name!

I agree with your comments, the defence has to tighten up,and we need to keep hold of Westwood.
We were a bit stronger at the back on saturday,but we still look like we will concede when the opposition puts a bit of pressure on us.
Leicester brought a large following,but we need that size crowd with just our fans,and then we could really start to be a fortress, but we've got so many part-timers just turning up now and again, it looks like never happening.
