We need a winning mentality

As good as we were against Sheffield United we simply seem unable to string together consecutive victories. Yes Preston away is a tough away game at any time but just like last season we had the opportunity to take all the points and blew it.

If we're ever going to get anywhere close to getting out of this league then we need to put this right soon.

Put simply we need players with a winning mentality. Players with mental strength who hate losing. Players who when they get into a lead know what it takes to ensure we take home the points.

I wasn't able to get to Preston on Saturday but from what I understand we had sufficient chances to win the game comfortably. Chances that we didn't take. Add to that some awful defending and it's hardly surprising we ended up losers once against at North End.

We could now have been in a really healthy league position instead we occupy a mid table position. A position I expect us to hold for the rest of the season. Anything better will require far greater consistency.

Thoughts now turn to Middlesbrough at the Ricoh on Saturday and despite their hammering at home to the Baggies will provide tough opposition.

Just like Sheffield United though Boro are beatable as are Watford and so indeed are Leicester. What price three wins on the trot?

It's not such a tall order but will require our players to display that winning mentality we haven't seen too much of so far.
