We aren't Gunnar blame you
IT'S never nice when players describe their own form as a "disgrace" but that's precisely what fans favourite Aron Gunnarsson has done.
Despite the fact that he is far from accountable for the Sky Blues recent demise in form, the young Icelandic international seems to be carrying an unnecessary weight upon his shoulders.
There are 11 players out on that pitch, many of whom have only played a handful of games together. If anyone expected miracles, surely you know by now that you are supporting the wrong club.
It really is a testament to Gunnarsson's character that he has come out with such an honest and frank assessment of his past few games, but Gunnar needs to relax, he is not the disgrace.
The title of Chief Disgracer must surely go to the Coventry board. I'm not one to demand a huge overhaul of players each and every summer; I am a firm believer in ensuring that quality is added during close season, not quantity.
Unfortunately that philosophy fell on deaf ears once Scott Dann, Danny Fox, Robbie Simpson, Andy Marshall, Kevin Thornton, Guillaume Beuzelin and now Leon McKenzie all left the club leaving the squad thinner than Victoria Beckham's waistline.
Transfer deadline day has come and gone and it's verging on depressing to think that sections of supporters considered the day a success because the club were able to hold on to Kieren Westwood.
Granted, Westwood is by far and away the top goalkeeper in this division, but success is not keeping hold of your top players, success and ambition is measured through the arrival of more top players.
The board have failed to deliver on this front and while I would like to think that both Ranson and Coleman were keen to bring new faces in, the fact of the matter is that they didn't.
Of course the stability of the club is vital, but it's just another chicken and egg scenario. Better players brings better results which will in turn bring more fans to the stadium and therefore higher profit margins, but in sticking with a squad that contains several academy graduates I'm afraid to say that many fans feel as if Ranson is showing his true colours...
