The Good, the Bad and the Ugly
WELL, after quite a strange transfer day, since not even the Premier League giants secured many interesting moves and the transfer window therefore closed with a small whisper rather than a bang, perhaps now is time to take stock?
The GOOD ... Keiren Westwood remaining a Coventry player, (at least until the January window opens), has to be considered a massive positive for the club.
What is the MUST DO now for the club, is to keep their promise that they made at the close of last season, to offer both Keiren and Aron improved deals with extensions to their contracts.
These contracts are long over due and these two are, I firmly believe, the key to moving forward ultimately in seasons to come.
The BAD ... Taking into consideration the finances of the club, their running losses but equally the amount of funds and salaries freed up during the summer (Dann, Fox, Doyle, Simpson), on balance we didn't trade enough in this window, simple.
Two more heads minimum was required to give us a fighting chance of a decent season, decent being defined as, in my book, mid table improvement rather than relegation dog fight.
Lack of depth, lack of quality and in particular lack of fire power up front, simply won't cut it this season and if truth be told, Beckford was a must, the valuation wasn't too excessive and his current form coupled with his last season's achievements would have warranted an outlay of this magnitude which leads us to the ...
UGLY ... The lack of expenditure has exacerbated my concern that we are financially much worse off than anyone at the club is letting on, a 'Beckford' like deal really was a must and the balance of the finances as mentioned above; trade losses v salary savings and transfer sales income, should have still allowed us to punt on one decent player, yet we didn't?
The real question now is, do we just lack conviction or is the club teetering once again so close to the wind with administration that conviction just doesn't come into it right now?
