Passionate fans
EUROPEAN players or managers who come to this country always comment on the passion of the fans.
Some of them underestimate their own home fans, but it's true that in this country fans live for their football.
Shankly's quote about it been more important than life and death was clearly meant tongue in cheek and shouldn't be overanalysed. However when the game is on to the true fan it is everything.
I for one turn into a madman screaming instructions at players who cant hear a word. The action unfolds on the pitch and no one truly knows exactly how it is going to end. We just shout and hope.
Most seasons only a few clubs can truly be winners. So a fans lows are far more frequent than the highs.
That of course makes the highs all the sweeter. For me the FA Cup win was an unbelievable high. Relegation for a long time was difficult to bear.
During the season's international breaks you miss your weekly fix.Close season used to be very hard to take. They are now shorter and shorter.
I'm no different from many fans, and I know some are far more dedicated than me. But those who own and play the game should always remember the fans.We are what the game is all about.
Recently, after visiting the ticket office I went to the Ricoh's memorial garden. It's a great tribute to fans for whom Coventry City was an important part of the fabric of thier lives.I'm sure they are watching out for City's results from above
