Looking through the transfer window
THOSE of us who suffered through pre-season when City seemed to ship players by the day can now judge the squad with the closure of the transfer window.
With the powerful position players are in these days, when Dann and Fox were targeted by Birmingham and Celtic, the end was obvious.
The replacements Cranie and van Aanholt look more than adequate. However, we've now lost four midfielders. Beuzelin, Doyle and McKenzie were basically our own choice. With Thornton we had little choice. Though usefull players Clingan and McIndoe don't measure up to this loss. Cork, like van Aanholt, is just on loan.
Up front Simpson has not been replaced. We are carrying three strikers now. McKenzie has left. None of them have been prolific at the club.
Though he'd probably not be the player he was, it's hard to see why Gary McSheffery, who could provide cover in left midfield and be a fourth choice at striker, hasn't been recruited. We have no way of knowing what the club's been doing behind the scenes, but on the face of it the squad is weaker.
We must hope the management can get more out of this squad than we've seen so far.
