Stephen Wright back in the gym

I HAD some pleasing news this week when a specialist informed me that the tear in my left Achilles has fully healed.
It has obviously been a very frustrating time for me over the last six weeks, being out injured after just joining Coventry in the summer.
I worked really hard in the pre-season when I was training with the club and was delighted to put pen to paper just before the start of the season.
We had a terrific first game and then unfortunately I started getting some pain in my Achilles in the second game against Aldershot in the Cup.
It came on with about seven minutes to go and I knew I had to go off, and believe me, I wouldn't go off for any little thing.
I thought it was a bit of stiffness at the time after playing two games in a week, but it was still very sore the next day and I travelled up to Barnsley and told the manager that I didn't think I would be able to play.
I agreed to a late fitness test but I knew in my own mind that it wasn't right.
Further investigation showed that there was a partial tear which is pretty serious because it can lead to a rupture which is a major injury.
I know the gaffer and Steve Kean have both suffered those in their careers, and Dimi Konstantopoulos is currently getting back from one as well, so that was the last thing I wanted given that you can be out for anything between six to nine months.
But now I have been given the all clear and hopefully I will be able to get back into training and get a couple of reserve games in and get back in the team.
I have missed a few weeks because I had to rest completely to let it heal.
But my fitness has always been good and I am confident that my good pre-season will hold me in good stead.
I started back in the gym on Tuesday, doing a bit of bike work but I just want to play football now and play as many games as possible for Coventry and do well for the club.
