Danny Fox backs Anthony Gerrard's Championship wish

DANNY Fox insists wantaway Walsall star Anthony Gerrard is ready to follow his Walsall soulmates and make the step up to the Championship.
Gerrard handed in a written transfer request on Wednesday, a move that echoed fellow scouse stoppers Fox and Scott Dann's exits from the Banks's Stadium in January.
Fox and Dann have made a seamless step up to the next level, both have become a key part of Coventry City's backline while the latter did enough to convince Chris Coleman that he was the right man to take up
the Sky Blues' captaincy.
Now having seen his former teammates become established Championship defenders, Gerrard, 22, now wants out of League One and Fox insists that the time is right.
Fox has known Gerrard since they were ten-years-old as they came through the ranks at
Everton before they were snapped up by ex-Walsall boss Paul Merson.
And having flourished in the three years he has been at the Saddlers, his childhood friend Fox feels he's ready for a bigger challenge.
"Anthony is a very ambitious person and I know that he is eager to make the step up and I believe that he is ready to make that step up.
"He's been Walsall's player of the season for two out of the last three seasons so he can't be doing much wrong.
"I think he wants to follow me and Scott, he watched his friends move on and he was happy for us but at the back of his mind he wanted to be doing the same.
"Anthony wants to go far in his career and test himself and he's more than capable of doing that.
"He's very commanding and a good, no-nonsense defender who won't take long to settle in because he's outgoing and a real character.
"Since I left Walsall I haven't seen him play but from what I've heard he has been a different class in their back four."
