DANNY SIMPSON says the only time he's been given the infamous 'hairdryer treatment' from Sir Alex Ferguson was after Coventry City humbled Manchester United at Old Trafford.

The Sky Blues - then led by former manager Iain Dowie - won 3-0 in the Carling Cup clash last season - with Michael Mifsud grabbing two goals.

And, as the Sky Blue Army celebrated in the Old Trafford stands, Sir Alex was giving his young side a hell of a rollicking - for being turned over by a Championship side at home.

Simpson, who was making his United first team debut on that night, admits it was one of the worst moments in his young career.

He told Tribal Football: ""Everyone gets it at some point in their United career.

"I admit it wasn't a good day for me and United.

"With my family and friends watching, it was my debut and I was devastated.

"The manager wasn't happy.

"It wasn't a nice feeling coming off the pitch. You then went home and for the rest of the night you were thinking about why you lost.

"But you learn from those kind of games and the mistakes you make. It makes you a better player.

"Hopefully tonight we can now get past the third round because I want I want to make up for what happened that night."
