GOALKEEPER Danny Ireland will be pitched into his Sky Blues debut against scalp-hunting Aldershot tonight.

The teenage Australian - he doesn't turn 18 until next month - gets his chance because summer recruit Kieren Westwood has tweaked his thigh and veteran Andy Marshall is still short of match fitness.

"It's not an easy start," admitted Coleman, "but you can't wrap players in cotton wool - they have got to take that first step some time.

"We know he's a very good keeper technically and now we'll see how he can handle himself. If we lose the game because he's made a mistake, that will be part of his character-building process - that's the way football is.

"We are planning to let him out on loan to gain experience but his chance has come earlier than expected.

"Kieren has a little bit of a niggle with his quad muscle - he'll be OK but we can't take a chance on him tonight and it would be unfair to expect Andy to come back in a very competitive match so he'll be on the bench."
